The DVDXPlatinum software we've reviewed by XSoftware is not the same as the old DVD X Platinum by 321 Studios. 321 Studios has gone out of business and no longer supports the product. Don't be fooled by other web sites selling the old product as a "closeout".  WHAT THEY ARE SELLING IS OVER 2 YEARS OLD!  

This review of DVDXPlatinum has been updated on 4/22/07. We used to call DVDXPlatinum "today's version of DVD X Copy Platinum." However, since the release of 1Click DVD Copy Pro (our top choice) we have to recommend that instead.  The 1Click products ARE the #1 choice for copying all the latest DVD movies. What we still like about DVDXPlatinum is that it does have a good feature set, and if you only want to copy older DVDs, or want to use it in conjunction with Video Vault to copy video tapes (footage you've taken with a video camera), DVDXPlatinum is still a good choice.

However, because of the way new DVDs are being authored these days with enhanced copy protection, the only real choice for DVD to DVD copying is 1Click or 1Click Pro.  Click the chart button at the top of this page for a detailed side by side comparison.

The DVDX Platinum Superpack does have some good features.  The software used to be one of the leading dvd copy programs on the market.  However, this software is lacking the updates of our higher ranked products such as 1Click DVD Copy and 1Click DVD Copy PRO.  Without these updates, DVDX Platinum will not be able to copy the latest releases

Even so, Video Vault 3.0 does allow you to import movies from just about any source including DVD, VCD and Home & Downloaded Videos.  You can compress and archive hundreds of movies onto your hard-disk and create a customizable Video Jukebox.

With Video Vault's Xpress "DVD Backup" function, you get a pure DVD-to-DVD backup tool with the ability to copy an original DVD movie from either the original DVD disc or from your computer's hard-disk.  The entire DVD disc or just the Movie itself can be auto compressed to a single 4.7GB blank disc.  Alternatively, you can make a perfect backup without any compression by copying to a dual layer blank disc.  These features are common in most pure DVD backup programs and similar to what you will find in other popular programs.

Also, Video Vault allows you to save your entire movie collection to your PC's hard-drive in a fraction of the space.  Movies can be stored in original quality or super-compressed into a variety of formats.  Your video collection can be customize by adding custom thumbnail images and categorized into custom or preset genres.
